Poetry and Technology -- A Mix That Was Made in Cyberheaven
Class 1 -- Students will hear Mr. Latman talk about what poetry is and what it isn't and what will be done for the next few months of Wednesdays from 2:15-3:45 in Room 220 at Harper High School.
Your goal here is to write poetry using the computer, some web sites, some old fashioned teaching, and lots of words. You will learn poetry as art and craft, as a love affair between your heart, mind, and the words you use to express your feelings and thoughts. This class will be evolving every week, but if you stick with it, you will have at least one place where you can publish your poetry, you may learn techniques (poetic devices) that might improve your writing, you will experience technology in a way that makes your work come alive. So all you wordsmiths, let's get it going!
Let's begin by first holding the control key down and pressing the letter N on the keyboard one time. That's so we have two windows open and you don't lose this one that has your instructions. Next you will create a Blogger account. You will need to write down your username, password, and site address on an 2 index cards you will be given, one for me and one for you. After this all is done, we will start our first Blog. And then we will minimize the web site and come back to this site. There are 4 poetry sites I would like you to look at, which we can explore together and separately (don't try this at home or you make split apart -- you will get use to my humor, eventually). These sites are: PoemsThatGo, Poets.org, Poetry and Prose of the Harlem Renaissance, and e-poetry
