Hamlet Wasn't Home When I Visited His Castle

Posted by Picasa

About 2 hours north of Copenhagen, in the town of Helsingor, Hamlet's Castle sits on the shore of the ocean. From a castle window and from the shore, directly northeast you can see land. Sweden is close enough to reach in 15 minutes by boat. This would explain why there were men walking the battlements 24 hours a day keeping watch. Shakespeare referred to the location as Elsingor. But there is no doubt that this is the castle to which he refers, where Prince Hamlet encounters the ghost of his father and learns of his "foul murder".
